We are proud to have successfully delivered Soil Biology and Health Masterclasses across Africa. Through this initiative, we have trained approximately 140 trainers – 70 each in Cameroon and Nigeria – who will now extend this knowledge within their regions.
Cameroon
A two-day training workshop on agricultural sustainability, soil health, and soil biodiversity was successfully held at the Faculty of Agronomy and Agricultural Sciences (FASA), University of Dschang. The event brought together practitioners, students, researchers, and institutional partners committed to advancing sustainable land management in Cameroon. This program has trained seventy trainers, who will now lead capacity-building efforts across the country and beyond. The course was delivered by distinguished facilitators, including: Prof. Ndzana Georges – Prof. Oben Tabi – Prof. Temgoua – Dr. Bedine – Dr. Kouedeu – Dr. Evarist Moundjeu – Prof. Brajesh Singh

Nigeria
Participants actively engaged in lectures, interactive discussions, and hands-on field activities covering: Soils as living systems and the One Health concept; Agricultural sustainability in the tropics under emerging environmental challenges; Soil health and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs); Soil microbial functional traits and ecological functions; Field assessment of soil health indicators; Organic soil amendments, including compost, manure, biochar, and BSF-based fertilizers; Regenerative agricultural practices, such as agroforestry, cover cropping, crop rotation, and conservation tillage. In Nigeria, the training was facilitated by a diverse team of experts: Dr. Chinedu Nwafor – Prof. Brajesh Singh – Dr. Dongo – Mrs. Lukelysia – Dr. Akpobome – Dr. Idoko – Prof. Kalu – Dr. Izevbigie – Dr. Christian – Dr. Eshoe

The Global Initiative for Sustainable Agriculture and Environment is proud to provide both financial and technical support for these training programs. Our commitment to advancing sustainable agriculture and soil biodiversity stewardship continues to create meaningful impact across the globe.
We extend our sincere gratitude to the Local Organizing Committees, led by Dr. Georges Martial Ndzana in Cameroon and Dr. Chinedu Nwafor in Nigeria, along with all participants for their enthusiasm and active engagement. Together, we are building stronger foundations for resilient food systems and sustainable land management across Africa.
What’s Next
Our next series of training programs is scheduled for South America, where we aim to continue expanding global capacity in soil health and sustainable agriculture.
Supporting Early career researchers from Developing Countries
The initiative has partnered with Global Soil Biodiversity Conference to support participation of ECRs from developing countries. We also supported poster awards for ECRs.
The Initiative is now partnering with International Conference on Mycorrhiza to be held on 12-17 July, 2026, Cairns to supports speakers and ECRs from developing countries.

Global Crop Microbiome survey
We are excited to note that all our research partners who contributed, have now commented on two first papers from this initiative. We aim to get these submitted in next 3-4 weeks. Stay tuned!
